From more than 250 proposals received, the National Advisory Committee selected seven coalitions to receive funding from the RWJF and assistance from the National Program Office (NPO). These seven coalitions ranged from those with extensive experience to newly created entities. Each was challenged to develop and implement a unique community action plan to reflect the needs and resources available in its own community.
Coalitions implemented a range of activities including:
- programs to educate families, health care providers, and other community members
- efforts to reduce environmental trigger exposure in homes and schools
- activities to improve and coordinate asthma care
- efforts to improve policies related to asthma management
