Physician Asthma Care Education Program (PACE) |
The PACE program is a two-part interactive, multi-media educational seminar for primary care physicians to improve physician awareness, ability, and use of communication and therapeutic techniques for reducing the effects of asthma on children and their families. PACE provides education for clinicians on how to employ the best current therapies for asthma and provides valuable information on how to communicate more effectively with patients and support patients' management efforts, enhancing the physician-patient relationship and helping patients and their families to better utilize the clinicians' recommendations. It also provides instruction on how to document, code, and improve asthma counseling reimbursement.
NHLBI is disseminating the PACE program free of charge to ensure that this best practice tool for improving asthma outcomes is widely available. The PACE website includes all materials needed to conduct a seminar, including a series of videos to train seminar facilitators, a contact list of master trainers, and updated curriculum materials that reflect the newly updated Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma that were released in August 2007 by the expert panel of the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP).
